Bio/Say Hello

Judit Sánchez Velasco is an Artist and Environmentalist born and raised in Barcelona, and a graduate from The Glasgow School of Art with a M.Des in Communication Design.

A 571-day journey across Southeast Asia, Oceania and Central America, and Kala Khoj artist residency in the experimental evolving township of Auroville, South India, brought her consciousness on the conflicts between a society based on the economic growth and its natural limits.

The artist’s practice is ultimately an excuse to unleash her creativity and curiosity about this complex world we inhabit. Defined by a research-based and explorative approach, her work spans across installation and conceptual documentary while seeking to bring new perspectives into the photographic canvas. Most significantly, it strives to evoke reflection upon mankind’s conflicting relationship with the natural ecosystem in the Anthropocene era.

Lately, Judit has been awarded residencies at La Wayaka Current in the Indigenous Province of Guna Yala, Central America, and Nes Artist Residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland. She is also the recipient of Art Emergent Sabadell, Featured Category Award (2018).

Following her expedition to Patagonia, the artist's upcoming installation will showcase the fragile geological equilibrium in the Chiloé Archipelago, where a tsunami wave submerged a section of the Valdivian Temperate Rainforest in 1960, triggering numerous wetlands along the River Chepu where now such primary forest, one of the last seven worldwide, magically rests.
